glass painting

i came across this post at apartment therapy while looking for some ideas on how to add some blue accents to my very neutral black/white/beige new apartment.  after clicking on the link on how to make them and running into a sale at the hardware store for 12 mason jars at $7, i realized this could be done very simply.  i was actually finished the painting in less than 15 minutes.  below are photos of the process and results.

t-shirt necklace

a girl from my knitting club at work showed up one day with this pretty cool necklace/scarf on.  it didn't take long before we all realized it was made out of a t-shirt and that we could make our own!

when the boo realized this cool new t-shirt he had just bought on sale was a girls' tee, and after giving it to me i realized it was too big to wear, i decided this was the shirt i'd be using for my t-shirt necklace.

i looked up directions online here and this is what i came up with:

the best tip i got from that link i posted with the directions is that if you want the t-shirt strips to curl to show the front of the t-shirt (once you stretch the strips to make them curl), you have to cut strips vertically, and for the opposite, you have to cut strips horizontally.

after looking at this last photo of me wearing it, i'm not actually sure i really like it.  maybe it's too much of a choker?  or not interesting enough?  not sure...  maybe i'll have to try again and somehow figure out how to make it longer.

vespa applique

i can't find the photos of the Omi and Corgi applique onesies...  but the good news is, they came out great!  the corgi one has already been sent and worn by the baby...  yay!!  success!!

i moved on to a vespa one on an american apparel onesie, which was a little scary since the onesie was a bit more expensive than the gerber ones.  but actually because it's better quality was easier to sew and i wasn't as worried about the sewing machine eating it.  so excited how it turned out!

btw, there is a chance i was wearing my vespa pj pants while making this...

glad i found this cloud cover stitch roll since you can't just put the raw applique backing right on the baby's skin.  it irons on really simply and is really soft.  thank you The Internet for making it easy to find...

not puzzled anymore

i finished the impossi-puzzle!  turns out it wasn't so impossible at all.  mostly because the colors tell you where the pieces go and fancy pieces make it easier to put together as well.  so i take back what i said about the puzzle originally...

now onto the next one...

my first applique

so my idea for more onesies-as-gifts + my new sewing machine got me looking into appliques.  i love this idea because i can basically put anything design i want on the onesie.

i started with some not-so-simple designs (of course), and quickly realized i should have started simpler.  and bigger!  below is the disaster of a truck i tried to do for new baby Brett.  as you can see in the second photo, the machine ate the onesie :(

the second one i tried, a bulldozer for baby Luke, worked!  in the second photo you can see some dimpling, but the machine didn't eat it!  my first applique!!  yay!!

now i have these two coming up, and i'm nervous about the machine eating them.  especially the Omi one since it's pretty complicated.  wish me luck!  after these two, i'm going with simpler and larger designs.  and colored onesies!

tie dyed onesies

seeing that i was in the suburbs of denver this weekend with a michael's within driving distance, it shouldn't be surprising that i came back to sf with some tie-dyed onesies.  that place is the best.  and ever since i realized most moms put their babies in onesies, i decided that's where my new gifts are at... no more unused booties!!

jules & omi

here are the first photos of jules & omi from this weekend.  sweetest kids ever.  i got a ton of great ones, so there will definitely be more, of course.
